District Outstanding Star(s) Award
The Couple of the Year program was fantastic with GWRRA for many years! With that being said, it has come time for a New look with Wing Rider PA District: Outstanding Star(s) Award.
The guidelines are very easy with no resume, no competition, no dress affair, just FUN! Yes, you can select a single person or a couple! Consideration for your Chapter Outstanding Star(s):
- Involvement with your Chapter
- What they do other than Chapter life, not limited to what is listed:
- Community involvement
- Care Giver for a Family Member or Special Needs Child
- Veterans’ organization American Legion or VFW
- Church, Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Trustee
- Every Chapter has Someone or a Couple that is an Outstanding Star! The way the program will work, choosing from Wing’d Rider Members:
- Chapter Directors will submit their write up by August 1 to Barry & Rhonda Blyler, Outstanding Star(s) Award Coordinators.
- The announcement will be made at the District Rally, no announcement at the Chapter level. This is intended to be a surprise to honor them at the Rally, the first time the recipient(s) will hear of it.
- At the Rally in August, the Chapter Director, or his designate, will read what they submitted for their Outstanding Star(s).
- We look forward to having a selection from every PA Chapter.
2023 - Outstanding Stars
Carla Dawelko - Endless Mountains Riders
The Endless Mountains Riders wants to recognize an Outstanding Star from our Chapter. This person developed web sites for several churches, as well as publishing event flyers for several different organizations, such as the Spencer/Van Etten alumni, The Ramp Guys of Steuben County, a nonprofit group that funds and builds ramps for disabled people, our own Chapter, the Endless Mountains Riders and others. In addition to creating our Chapter and District Newsletters, this person produces Chapter Flyers. This person also plans, directs and makes costumes for our skits. This person plans our motorcycle trips throughout our beautiful country, securing homes for us to all stay together so we can interact as a family on our trips. Our big fundraiser for the year is called the Gumball / Poker Run. This person goes out into the community and solicits the largest amount of donations, while creating a comprehensive listing of the prizes.
This person has over a dozen grandchildren and great grandchildren. This person sponsors them in activities each year to participate in dance classes, gymnastics and other activities. This person is also involved with the Sayre Sportsman’s Club, Action Pistol/ Rifle Matches where this person helps set up the event each month, April through October. This person recently got their motorcycle license and drove to the Thousand Islands by themselves this summer. This person attends Cross Roads Family Ministry and participates in their motorcycle ride each month. For all these reasons and many more, nominated by several from The Endless Mountains Riders, I would like to recognize Carla Dawejko as our Outstanding Star.
Mike & Shirley Prince - Black Rose Wings
Our Outstanding Star couple have worn many hats in the chapter. Among those are Chapter Director and Couple of the Year. He plans and leads many of our rides. She coordinates many of our Meet n Eats and our games at different get togethers. In his spare time, he likes to do some hunting and competitive shooting. Together, they like to ride bicycles and do walks. She also works out at the YMCA. When we do our yearly Bunny Run to Hoffman Homes, she places a box at the Y to collect stuffed animals. For our fund raising he coordinates our flagging assignments with race organizer to allow the bikes to safely pass thru the intersects.They have opened their home many times for the chapter to get together. He is currently our chapter treasurer and our webmaster. They do this all while running a successful business. But their most important role is being great friends who bring a lot of fun and enthusiasm to the chapter.
